If a triangulating Bill Clinton is remembered for saying that “the era of big government is over,” Joe Biden will be remembered for saying that the era of big government is back. To reach his place in the pantheon of progressive icons alongside FDR and LBJ, he will need to raise taxes significantly. And here, too, we see what a sham his “moderate” image was all along. Some moderate Democrats are already balking at his tax-hiking plans.
