Dear Majority Leader Thune and House Speaker Johnson,
The Schumer government shutdown is a direct result of demands by radical Left-wing Democrats to expand the temporary Obamacare subsidies.
These subsidies made sense during COVID, now they are not needed and are unacceptable.
Continuation of these subsidies will vastly expand the size of government and allow illegal aliens to receive benefits at a cost of $350 billion to the American taxpayers over the next decade.
This is not about making healthcare more affordable for the American people.
Instead, we will be creating what amounts to a permanent taxpayer-funded giveaway to insurance companies, and it is rife with waste, fraud, and abuse.
With the help of conservatives’ support, President Trump worked diligently to shrink the size of government and reduce the burden on taxpayers. Agreeing with these ridiculous demands would undo all of that progress and savings.
As a fiscal conservative, I urge you to stand firm, open the government, and unequivocally reject any attempts to make the temporary COVID Obamacare subsidies permanent.
