Trump Admin to Clamp Down on States Doling Out Medicaid Benefits to Illegals

The CMS warned state officials that it is “ramping up financial oversight activities” by closely
scrutinizing state Medicaid programs. The enforcement measures will include increased scrutiny of quarterly spending reports from which federal spending for state’s Medicaid costs are determined and reviews of select states’ financial management systems. CMS is also reviewing eligibility rules for loopholes through which money flows to non-citizens and encouraging states to review their own internal controls and IT systems.
